Domain 3: Electro-Optic (EO) Sensors
This domain is concerned specifically with EO sensors. This may include:
- On-board weapon passive and active imaging Electro Optic (EO) sensors and Semi Active Laser (SAL) sensors
- Passive and active proximity fuzing where this does not conflict with Domain 7 (Fuzing and SAU) and EO altimeters i.e non proximity fuzing
- Any other novel EO sensors that evolve from studies
The focus of the research is on high priority areas for the UK and French guided weapons EO industry.
All projects are to address new capability requirements for future weapon systems. It is intended that there will be a mix of a few higher TRL projects addressing key areas and more novel, low TRL projects to promote innovation.
Projects may centre on EO components and sub-systems or complete sensor systems and may be based on concept, design or hardware studies. It is important that this area is not isolated so it is expected there will be liaison with the other domains, particularly the systems domain.
The overriding trend in the key technology areas (described below) is the ambition to achieve lower cost whilst providing enhanced capability against ever-more difficult operational scenarios.
